Previously, I did an update to the post Douchebag Businessman Award: Chick-fil-A. Normally there isn’t a whole lot to update about these articles so one or two updates is enough. It appears that the Chick-fil-A debacle is not going to be typical. Instead of doing a bunch of updates on the original post, I figured I’d just create a new post specifically for the updates:
You can read the original post and first update here.
Update July 25, 2012
Chick-fil-A mysteriously did a “safety recall” on the Muppet toys that had been given out in its kid’s meals. The company says it was due to kid’s getting their fingers stuck in the toy; although, the recall even admitted that there were no reported incidents of children injured by the toy. Coincidence that this happens right after the Jim Henson Company severs ties with Chick-fil-A? I think not.
A Chicago alderman vowed to block a Chick-fil-A restaurant in his ward.
In a hilarious turn of events, a fake Facebook profile popped up and started defending Chick-fil-A’s support of anti-gay organizations. The profile was supposedly a young girl, but she was quickly debunked as a fake by Facebook users who knew quite a bit more about social networking than the morons who created the page. The profile picture was a stock photo of a young girl and the page had been created only 8 hours earlier. The company denies that they had any involvement with the page, but many doubt their claims. In fact, it was not the only profile that was created to defend Chick-fil-A. It is possible that it was some genius who thought they would be able to help defend Chick-fil-A against the growing boycotts and online protests. Whether it was a pathetic public relations person or a misguided supporter of the company, it is still funny. The company has been made to look even more ridiculous than they were before. This was even more pitiful than the statement on their Facebook page or their initial attempts to convince people that they didn’t have an anti-gay agenda. Just give up Chick-ies.
Update August 1, 2012
Well, it was moron day at Hate-fil-A today.
Thousands turned out to show that they support discrimination and hate.
Neo-Nazis laughed and cheered as they participated in the spread of hate.
from a skinhead who attended this call for hate:
“I had Chick-fil-A today for lunch and it was delicious and non-gay … just how I like it.”
Yes people, this is who you’re throwing your chips in with.
I’m sure they found it hilarious that people who have been damning them for decades stood side-by-side with them today.
You know what was more interesting than a bunch of simpletons paying for overpriced chicken to support their hateful agenda? The millions who didn’t support that agenda and continued to boycott the company. My news feed that was filled with people who normally don’t take sides in political and social issues condemning the widespread and ridiculous hate that people who like to call themselves Christians are spreading.
I’ve restrained myself mostly about this issue. If you think I’ve been harsh then you really don’t understand how deeply I feel about this issue. Unfortunately, the faces of these people smiling as they furthered their hate-filled agenda today pushed me past my breaking point.
First, you all don’t support “traditional marriage.” You don’t even understand what that means. The Bible is filled with examples of marriage to multiple wives, marriage to slaves, and concubines. That is traditional. The use of this term is nothing but a way to try to convince people that you are doing something other than furthering hate.
Second, no one is “persecuting” you. That’s a ridiculous statement and your pity party has no affect on the rest of us. In fact, the persecution is directed at homosexuals. Their rights are being taken away. You want to ask someone about persecution? Talk to the Jews who suffered through the holocaust. Talk to the Christians who were really persecuted and thrown into arenas with lions. Just because we are calling you the jackasses that you are, does not mean you are being persecuted.
Third, I’m a Christian. I was raised a Christian. My father is a pastor. I attend church. I have read an entire story Bible to my daughter – and you people make me sick. It infuriates me that you have the nerve to call yourselves Christians and act the way you do. You are wrong…you are filled with hate…and you will have to stand at God’s feet someday and answer as to why you hate your neighbor. Stop calling yourselves Christians. You are not. The end.
Fourth, this is not an attack on anyone’s First Amendment rights. No one has said he can’t say what he wants. But he has to suffer the consequences of what he says. And why do you want to silence homosexuals and the millions of heterosexuals who support them? Isn’t it our First Amendment right to say this guy is an ass-hat and call for boycotts? But our First Amendment rights aren’t important as long as you can spread your hate. Stop your crying. No one has silenced this douchebag. He’s just suffering the consequences of his actions. Deal with it. Speaking of First Amendment…
This is not a religious issue. It is a government issue. Get it through your heads! The government shall make no law respecting the establishment of a religion! That’s not vague or confusing! If the marriage laws are made to support the Christian idea of marriage then it’s a First Amendment violation. Gay marriage has no affect on your marriage. New York has had legalized same-sex marriage for over a year now. Guess what? Not one heterosexual marriage was annulled during that time on the grounds of gay marriage being legalized! No way! How could this be? Haven’t we been told that gay marriage would lead to the end of marriage as we know it? Well, it doesn’t. It’s fear mongering.
Finally, these pseudo-Christians aren’t even intelligent enough to understand the simple old adage that you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. As you push and push against homosexuals you are pushing them, and many others, farther and farther away. Your “message” is an attack on these people and their freedoms. Of course they are going to be defensive. Here’s an idea…stop attacking people! Accept them with loving arms. Bring them into your homes and churches. Teach them to love and learn about Christ. If homosexuality is a choice (which I’m not sure that I believe at all), then they will eventually make the choice to change. In the interim, all of the people that are currently saying how intolerant and holier than thou Christians are would be more willing to also accept an invitation.
Well, I think I’ve vented enough for one night. Oh, Mike Huckabee…you are also an ass-hat pseudo-Christian.
